Lawrence Okolie is a rising boxing star who has a big co-sign, he's managed by heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. But the cruiserweight fighter is doing a great job making a name for himself. In an undercard fight for Joshua's recent match against Kubrat Pulev, Okolie made a huge statement by knocking out Nikodem Jezewski in the second round. We must note that Jezewski was filling in for Krzysztof Glowacki who tested positive for COVID-19 and had to bow out of the fight. But even under these circumstances, the fact that Okolie handled a contender so well is impressive.
Now, Okolie is getting his chance against Glowacki Saturday as the fight will determine the cruiserweight champion. The winner will get the vacant WBO belt. This is the Brit's first shot at the title and he has been prepping, captioning promo posts for the fight with "I choose violence."
Okolie is also a rapper and he walked out to his own song against Jezewski. He reps a collective called Penny Bois and has created a brand of grit and toughness. Prior to his title fight, he released a song called "TKO," appropriately captioning what he's already done and plans to continue doing. His flow is a little "Rapper 101" and his content is strictly braggadocious bars about the life of a boxing superstar, but he holds his own nicely. The video is shot in Dubai and shows all the luxuries that Okolie enjoys, Rolls-Royce cars, a VVS diamond grill and an Audemars Piguet watch. His name is "The Sauce" for a reason.
If you need more of a taste of what the British rap scene offers, check out Fredo's video for "Back to Basics." The song is produced by Dave, who is also a brilliant lyricist. There's an amazing rap scene overseas. Maybe we will do a post on that soon...
